Live Caption Tz

Every word on screen, as it is said.

Live Caption Tz listens to the room and writes the words in large text, in English or Kiswahili, so nobody has to ask what was just said. Free to use, no account needed.

Transcribe a recording Beta

Turn an audio or video file into text. Everything runs inside your browser, so the recording never leaves this device. The first run downloads the speech model once, then it works from cache. Kiswahili needs a larger model than English to come out readable.

This feature is still being tested. Accuracy varies a lot, and names, acronyms and sentences that mix Kiswahili with English are where it slips most often. Always read the text against the recording before you rely on it. If it gets something badly wrong, tell me through the contacts in About, that is how it improves.

Choose a file, or drop one here mp3, m4a, wav, ogg, mp4. Recordings under an hour work best.

About Live Caption Tz

Free to use

Live Caption Tz turns spoken words into large, readable text the moment they are said, in English or Kiswahili. There is no account, no fee and no time limit.

It was built for two kinds of people:

Developed by Goodluck Mlolere, with support from Youth Power Organization.

If it helps you, please rate it and pass it on to someone who needs it. Word of mouth is how it reaches the people it was made for.

What happens to your words

To recognise speech, your browser sends the audio to its own speech service, which is Google's in Chrome. The text appears only on this screen. Live Caption Tz does not store your transcript or send it anywhere, and nothing is kept once you close the page unless you save it yourself.
